Things to do – Hovercraft
Things to do – Hovercraft. If you have never experienced a ride on a Hovercraft, add this to your bucket list – leisure hovercraft can fly over any flat surface at speeds of up to 40 mph.
Hovering at a height of 9 inches above the surface, the ride is extremely comfortable thanks to built-in air suspension. Because hovercraft are not in contact with the ground, you can do 180 degree turns or 360 spins, and glide from water to land to water without noticing any difference. If you plan to start from an on-water start, you need to practise “getting over hump” to overcome the pressure wave that all hovercraft create, and this requires that you move your body weight forward until you get over the hump. You need to move your weight back once over hump, to prevent the hovercraft from ploughing in – meaning to nose dive on water.
Many companies offer hovercraft experience rides and tuition, and most hovercraft are easy to operate although you do need to anticipate direction and begin to make a turn ahead of time.
Many celebrities have expressed their love of hovercraft, to include Rupert Grint, Bubba Watson, James Bond, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.
