Carbon Infinity Update – Best Hovercraft 2016 ?

Best Hovercraft 2016 ?

Since the introduction of the Carbon Infinity in 2015, we are glad to report that this model has been well received; we have enjoyed multiple sales to military and rescue services.

There have been two important updates to the specification; rather than introduce a new model version, print revised specification sheets and hike the price, we would rather just update you on these major improvements.

1/. Changes to the engine – more power

New Carbon Infinity models will be fitted with the new Weber Automotive MPE 850 which delivers approximately 5% more power than the previous turbo-charged 4-stroke engine utilized.

2/. Changes to the drive system, more power, less noise.

New belt, gear pulley and blade set up.

In anticipation of the new more powerful engine, our R&D team have improved the drive system, reducing the number of fan blades from 12 to 9, with a new pitch angle to optimize the additional power available and running a 96 tooth top pulley to lower fan speed which actually increases efficiency. Fewer blades, with a reduced fan speed reduces the noise output, and further improves performance. These improvements required a new drive belt and CNC- machined from solid aluminum billet engineered pulley assembly in keeping with our philosophy to use best parts available and maximise craft durability and life time of components.

In time we will release new improved payload ratings for on-land and on-water starting.

Customers are reminded that hovercraft performance can be measured and quantified.

Initial testing of the Carbon Infinity confirmed an on-water payload capability of half a ton, or 500 Kgs, with an on-land payload capability of 675 Kgs, 1491 pounds. We always specify payload to include a safety margin, since weather conditions can affect payload, especially in strong wind conditions. During demonstrations some customers have requested that we go beyond our specified payload ratings (infinity and beyond), and we have demonstrated on numerous occasions, a higher on-water payload. With the additional power and new drive system improvements, we are confident that the improved Carbon Infinity performance offers customers the best value for a 7 to 9 seater hovercraft.

Carbon Fibre Hull

Of course the Carbon Fibre and Kevlar hull provides the Carbon Infinity with lightweight / strength characteristics that glass fibre hovercraft simply cannot match – we considered glass fibre production, but choose carbon fibre for it’s obvious advantages.

Quantifiable value for money

How to judge which hovercraft is best? Well there are many features such as ease of use, CAD/CNC digital engineering, length of time a supplier has been in business, whether fan guards are fitted front and rear. But the one over-riding feature has to be value for money.

Despite the additional product development costs, we are confident that Carbon Fibre is the ideal material choice. We tried glass fibre and rejected GRP on weight and fragility grounds. Compare the Carbon Infinity to any other hovercraft simply by dividing the purchase price by the on-water payload, for example £33,000 pounds sterling divided by 500 Kgs equals £66 per Kilo of on-water lift capability, or $47,850 divided by 1105 pounds equals $43.30 per pound. (1.45 USD rate to £1) Don’t confuse on-land payload with on-water payload, since some suppliers hide their on-water payloads – hovercraft generally carry 50% more weight when starting on land compared to on-water. For this reason, never ask suppliers how many seats a hovercraft has, drill down to on-water payload, assuming you wish to use over water. Also, consider your passenger and equipment carrying weights.

We are confident that you’ll find it impossible to find a hovercraft that can compare to the Carbon Infinity.
