Carbon Fibre Hovercraft – The Hov Pod Carbon Infinity 120HP Turbo is the world’s first production hovercraft to be manufactured from Carbon Fibre Composite. By exploiting carbon fibre benefits, the Carbon Infinity will offer significant advantages over hovercraft manufactured from aluminium or glass fibre.
To infinity and beyond
The Hov Pod Carbon Infinity is able to fly over any flat surface, so water, grass, concrete, tarmac, mud, sand, ice and snow. Without a propeller to get snarled on sub-surface objects, it can handle shallows, fast running water, swamps, and will not damage sea mammals such as manatees or turtles.
The cargo bay and seating area is flexible enough to allow configurations to suit a wide to suit a wide range of applications; from rescue to homeland security, survey, commercial and for use as a tender for larger yachts. Yet, it will be small and light enough to be airlifted into areas where disasters has occurred. One option offered is an emergency drinking water system – one Hov Pod Carbon Infinity can deliver over 2 million gallons of fresh uncontaminated drinking water to areas affected by tsunamis, earthquakes or floods.
Carbon Fiber is still relatively expensive as a material, but when compared to conventional hovercraft manufactured from Aluminum, the Hov Pod Carbon Infinity 120HP Turbo will offer a significant price advantage. Hovercraft performance can be measured by comparing the price divided by the lifting capacity.
The Carbon Infinity can lift 995 pounds of weight (450 Kgs) from an on-water start, or 1491 Pounds (675 Kgs) when starting on land; by exploiting carbon fibre composites, the price/performance of the Carbon Infinity should blow other hovercraft out of the water due to it’s low weight and high performance turbo-charged engine.
